AXN Mystery (on Sky Perfect channel) is showing again “Nicolas Le Floch”, a French mystery drama series that is happening in the 18th century in Louis 15th era. The language spoken is of course French, but an older, very complicated version of the French language that may be difficult for non native speakers to understand. Even I need to concentrate on the words used, since they are not always common.

The series is strongly inspired by a series of novels written by a French novelist who was among others also diplomat, Jean-François Parot.

The books have been translated in English as well and are available on amazon.co.jp. Some of the books have also already been translated into Japanese (see ジャン フランソワ パロ or here on amazon.co.jp)

Vous connaissez Emile Zola ?

Emile Zola reste à ce jour un grand nom de la littérature française.

Il est aujourd’hui encore célèbre pour sa saga “Les Rougon-Macquart” (20 livres au total sur cette famille qu’il a créée) et également pour son “J’accuse”, dans l’affaire Dreyfus.

Mercredi, je vais avoir un examen sur l’auteur Zola dans le cadre de mes études de français avec l’Université de Londres, système externe (formation à distance).

Do you know Emile Zola ?

Emile Zola remains to this day one of the most famous French writers.

He is still today famous for his series “The Rougon-Macquart” (20 books about this family he created from scratches) and also for his plea “J’accuse”, in the Dreyfus affair.

This upcoming Wednesday, I will sit an exam about Zola. This exam is a part of my BA in French studies with the University of London, external system (distance learning).
